About Hutton House Interiors Ltd

From the time I was 5, I’ve had a love affair with homes. My earliest memory is asking my Grandma if I could press the foot pedal on her sewing machine. That simple act sparked a passion that has guided my life ever since. Growing up, I was always helping my mum, grandma, and aunties with their homes, and I spent countless hours rearranging my own bedroom to what I thought at the time was perfection (not sure my Mum agreed!).

In my very early twenties, I taught myself how to sew, and soon I was making curtains for our family. When friends started asking for custom curtains, I knew I needed more confidence in my skills, so I enrolled in a residential course to learn the art of traditional curtain making. This was a turning point for me. By then, I was married with a young baby, and we set up a worktable over the spare bed in our home, where I began creating curtains for others.

Two years later, with our spare room bursting at the seams, I opened a small unit to accommodate my growing ‘business’. Word spread quickly, and soon I was approached by reps from designer fabric companies. Before I knew it, I was stocking luxurious designer brands and creating exquisite, bespoke curtains, blinds, cushions, and more. As my library of designer fabrics and wallpapers expanded, so did my love for helping people create their dream homes.

When my daughter started school, I decided to invest more time into my little business and opened a shop. I couldn’t keep up with the demand on my own, so I hired Grace, an incredibly talented curtain maker who became not just a colleague but a dear friend. Grace and I worked side by side for over 18 years until her passing in 2022, which was a heartbreaking loss. Without Grace, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I’m forever grateful for her friendship and skill.

After COVID hit, everything changed. People's buying habits shifted dramatically, and at the end of 2023 it became clear that it was time to close the shop. With a heavy heart, I made the decision to focus on a new chapter. I now lead (with the help of Fiona) the design and product side of Hutton House Interiors, and I absolutely love what I do.

 One of my greatest passions is this website! Fiona and I both adore sourcing and curating new pieces to help you create stylish homes. Over the years, my style has evolved, and I’m lucky that Fiona and I share very similar tastes—though we do disagree from time to time! I’d describe our style as an ultra-tasteful balance of rustic elements and luxurious touches, creating a relaxed yet sophisticated aesthetic.
