Our Story So Far
Hutton House Interiors has evolved from a love of beautiful homes, textiles and bespoke curtain making into the interior design studio it is today.
Our work now centres on interior design, styling and bespoke curtains and blinds, alongside a small Designer's Edit of pieces we genuinely love and would happily use in our own projects and homes.
Tracey leads the design studio, supported by Fiona, bringing together years of experience in colour, proportion, textiles, sourcing and the details that make a room feel considered rather than simply decorated.
Tracey's Journey
From the time I was 5, I’ve had a love affair with homes. My earliest memory is asking my Grandma if I could press the foot pedal on her sewing machine. That simple act sparked a passion that has guided my life ever since. Growing up, I was always helping my mum, grandma, and aunties with their homes, and I spent countless hours rearranging my own bedroom to what I thought at the time was perfection (not sure my Mum agreed!).
In my very early twenties, I taught myself how to sew, and soon I was making curtains for our family. When friends started asking for custom curtains, I knew I needed more confidence in my skills, so I enrolled in a residential course to learn the art of traditional curtain making. This was a turning point for me. By then, I was married with a young baby, and we set up a worktable over the spare bed in our home, where I began creating curtains for others.
Two years later, with our spare room bursting at the seams, I opened a small unit to accommodate my growing ‘business’. Word spread quickly, and soon I was approached by reps from designer fabric companies. Before I knew it, I was stocking luxurious designer brands and creating exquisite, bespoke curtains, blinds, cushions, and more. As my library of designer fabrics and wallpapers expanded, so did my love for helping people create their dream homes.
When my daughter started school, I decided to invest more time into my little business and opened a shop. I couldn’t keep up with the demand on my own, so I hired Grace, an incredibly talented curtain maker who became not just a colleague but a dear friend. Grace and I worked side by side for over 18 years until her passing in 2022, which was a heartbreaking loss. Without Grace, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I’m forever grateful for her friendship and skill.
After COVID, the way people shopped and lived changed and by the end of 2023 it felt like the right time to close the shop and take Hutton House Interiors in a new direction. It gave me the opportunity to return my focus to the part of the business I have always loved most - helping people create homes that feel considered and completely their own.
Today with Fiona's support, I lead our interior design work across Edinburgh and Central Scotland, alongside our online design services throughout the UK. We work on everything from a single design problem to complete room designs and larger renovations, always considering layout, proportion, colour, lighting, textiles and, most importantly, how a home needs to work in real life.
We still curate a small Designer's Edit, but it now sits alongside the design studio rather than defining it. Every piece is chosen because it is something we would happily use in our projects or our own homes.
FIONA is passionate about interiors and has a natural flair. Fiona can help you with your purchases in the shop and also works hard at keeping our website and social media pages up to date. She assists Tracey with house visits and works alongside her on mood boards, presentations and our E-Services. She is an excellent home stylist and curator of all things interior - you should ask for her help if you get the chance! She is also a brilliant photographer too.

FIONA has grown to become an integral part of Hutton House Interiors and works alongside Tracey across almost every area of the business. From client administration and project organisation to sourcing, mood boards, presentations, styling and the website, there is very little she isn’t involved in.
She has a natural eye for interiors, an exceptional attention to detail and a real talent for styling. She also has a great eye behind the camera, which makes her just as useful on a photo-shoot as she is pulling together a client presentation.
Most importantly, Fiona understands how we want a Hutton House interior to feel - considered, individual and beautifully put together without ever feeling overdone. She has become an invaluable part of both the studio and the way we look after our clients.
